On January 12, Mexico registered a record number of deaths due to COVID-19. Now, a little more than a week later, the record has been broken again, with one thousand 803 deaths recorded in the last day, according to information announced by the Ministry of Public Health (SS).

The total number of deaths in the Mexican country amounts to 146 thousand 174, while the number of infections has already reached one million 711 thousand 283. Currently, the mortality rate caused by the SARS Cov 2 virus has reached 8.4%.

Mexico has 10 states under the red light: Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Coahuila and Nuevo León; 19 are under the orange light: Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Colima, Durango, Guerrero, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Nayarit, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas. The entities of Chiapas and Chihuahua remain in yellow while Campeche continues to be the only location in green.

Worldwide, Mexico is in fourth place in the ranking of countries with the highest number of deaths due to the pandemic, with the United States leading the list with 409 thousand 667, followed by Brazil and India with 214 thousand 147 and 152 thousand 869 deaths respectively.

In other news, the Health Secretariat announced the recovery of 1 million 277 thousand 978 infected people, as well as 115 thousand active cases so far in the country.
