In the midst of the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and an unstable economic landscape, water rates have risen in Baja California.

This measure implemented by the State Government affects not only citizens but also the business sector that has not received the news of the new taxes since it represents a bigger blow to the closing of businesses, unemployment and the high cost of rent.

For the soft drink sector, the cost of water represents up to 20% of current spending, so the increase in the rate of the vital liquid for them is unacceptable.

The president of Coparmex Tijuana, Roberto Rosas Jiménez, commented:

"It is unfortunate that all levels of government, instead of supporting small businesses, continue to increase the cost of services. We must remember that Baja California is the state that has the most taxes".

Baja California's Income Law now establishes that the minimum rate from 0 to 5 cubic meters, that is, the standard domestic use fee, will be 99.84 pesos. This represents an increase of 3.40 pesos compared to the price in 2020.

For commercial use, the water rate rose from 331.83 pesos to 343 pesos for use of 0 to 5 cubic meters. This meant an increase of 3.5%.
