Yesterday the Semar (Mexican Navy) received an alert from the U.S. Coast Guard District, where they reported that an unidentified vessel was adrift near Ensenada, B.C.

The situation caused the activation of the so-called ''Marine Rescue Plan'', a mission that aims to assist the civilian population in cases and/or areas of emergency or disaster.

This protocol ordered an MLB-type boat to set sail; after some time they were able to locate the affected people, 10 men and 3 women who were floating in a boat 92 kilometers northwest of Ensenada's coasts.

Those rescued were taken to the dock of the Second Naval Region to receive the appropriate medical attention by naval health personnel to determine their health status.

The boat was towed because it represented a danger for the local navigation. In addition, the National Institute of Migration coordinated with Semar to carry out the corresponding procedures, since of the 13 people rescued, 12 were Mexican nationals and one was from Honduras.

It is worth mentioning that so far this year the ENSAR (Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Surveillance) has rescued close to 160 people.

"With these actions, the Mexican Ministry of the Navy, as the National Maritime Authority, in charge of the Coast Guard, confirms its commitment with the citizens to safeguard human life at sea".
