David Saul Guakil has been a lifelong entrepreneur, citizen, and in recent years, a public servant looking at more ways to help in the development of the city.
The president of the Cosmopolitan Group, who specializes in the development and construction of real estate projects, comes from a family deeply in love with Tijuana and the future it represents for many.
A large part of Guakil's projects have focused on reinventing what can be done in the city, especially as far as vertical development is concerned. Tijuana owes it's changing skyline in large part to Guakil and his family's vision.
Guakil is known mainly for his work with modern buildings, such as Torre Cosmopolita in Zona Rio, and its almost ready Cosmopolitan Residencial, along with a future hotel, built in collaboration with Ibis.
However, the approach of Cosmopolitan Group goes even further, as they have managed to venture into projects that rescue abandoned spaces in the city with the desire to modernize them and give them a new use. Projects such as the economic and modern housing complex called "Eazy Living" or the new "Esquina Sara" on Avenida Revolución.
"Its virtues will always be greater than its problems," says Guakil about Tijuana. He also adds that the city is creative by nature; prepared, dedicated to work, to movement, to increasing commerce and also seeks "constant overcoming."
Downtown Tijuana represents "a living and vigorous example" of this entrepreneurial spirit. He explains that the location is privileged, has constant movement and a large part of the local population enjoys the current dynamic - between the culinary goods and its commercial activity - and happens right at the time of a resurgence after years of "inexplicable quietude."
Within this resurgence, Guakil and his team seek to take advantage to support the city, by introducing innovation and sustainability in their projects, and also settle a model for development in Downtown and the rest of Tijuana.
"We were recognized at a national level with a distinction granted to companies whose development includes the strict quality and environmental protection standards. As a rule we use these parameters in all our real estate projects because we believe in the well planned and better ordered growth for a city like the one that we live, in constant impulse, that does not know inaction. "
He also emphasizes construction, because he believes that "the confidence of foreign investors is demonstrated in the quantity and quality of buildings under construction for corporate offices and housing that are born day by day and can be seen and felt with just taking a tour for our city."
Why trust Tijuana if you are an investor or a tourist
Saul Guakil also emphasizes how much Tijuana has grown since 1994 thanks to the North American Free Trade Agreement, which on balance he sees as something positive, hoping that the renegotiations will only improve it. The maquiladora industry in the city "is synonymous with quality anywhere in the world and our productivity rates are among the highest." These high standards have helped make the border workforce one of the best in the country, an attractive for investors.
And while recognizing that crime is something that must be solved as quickly as possible, as well as permanently, he affirms that tourism usually remains unaffected. Evidence of this is the good figures seen this past Labor Day, with thousands of tourists crossing the border to enjoy Baja California.
The Mexican government dedicates substantial resources to protect visitors to major tourist destinations and has engaged in an extensive effort to counter criminal organizations that engage in narcotics trafficking and other unlawful activities throughout Mexico. There is no evidence that criminal organizations have targeted U.S. citizens based on their nationality. Resort areas and tourist destinations in Mexico generally do not see the level of drug-related violence and crime that are reported in the border region or in areas along major trafficking routes.
