Taste the Difference at Tacos "El Chombe" in Tijuana

Give it a really good try, you won't regret it

Tijuana is famous for a lot of things, but one of the most important elements of its culture are TACOS, which can be found almost everywhere in the city, but you need to know where to look to find the special ones, and you can find them at "Tacos El Chombe."

While most of taco stands work under the average "poblano" style. "El Chombe" chooses to be different and creates a new style that may not be the best for most people, specially if they're looking for that taco filled with guacamole. But truth be told, you definitely need to taste them.

These taco's difference is that there's NO GUACAMOLE in it, no matter if it's the one ingredient that makes a taco a taco, so El Chombe has put a new ingredient to them, can you guess?

This taco has two tortillas of normal size (not little ones as usual) and they are smeared with MAYONNAISE... yes, MAYO. Believe it or not this is key for the amazing flavor. The order goes like this: Mayo, delicious coal meat, a spoon of beans, onion, coriander and the special homemade "Chombe" sauce.

A lot of people have been acting sceptical about the lack of avocado, but a lot of them have returned throughout the years, many of them with their sons, all because they tried these tacos when they were little. Owner of "El Chombe" says:

"I've been making tacos for 30 years, and believe it or not, I don't get tired of them. It's always very gratifying to see first timer's faces and hear them say "it's pretty good", or "I've never tasted tacos like this." I got clients that came to eat when they were kids and now they bring their own ."

Besides feeding the community of La Mesa de Tijuana with his tacos for 30 years, people can also enjoy of amazing asada tortas with the same ingredients as tacos, plus white cheese, tomato and avocado.

However, not everything's good with business, unfortunately this is a taco stand that you can't considerate for your midnight "munchies" because it closes pretty early, around 3:30 pm because of lack of people; and besides, is a little far from the border, but hey, all you need is a bit of adventurous feeling and to go out and hunt this delicacy. Just taste Tijuana.

You can find tacos "El Chombe" in 32.486987, -116.947417 via Google Maps. It opens at 8:00 am and closes at 3:30 pm.
