The old building for crossing between Tijuana and San Diego on foot, will stop working on August 1st, and 6 lanes will remain open for pedestrian use. The Chamber of Commerce of San Ysidro expects no complications in the matter since they are primarily concerned with the modifications of pedestrian flow.
The six alternate lanes, enabled by Customs and Border and CBP Protection, will be next to the old historical building of the San Ysidro Customs office, where until recently, travelers applied for I-94 permits.
"There are signs saying the building will be closed. Yes, it is true, but it will not stop the crossing; the six lanes will always be available, "confirmed Jason Wells, President of the Chamber of Commerce of San Ysidro.
The closure of the East pedestrian building is due to the remodeling of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
The Port of Entry Director of San Ysidro and Otay, Sidney Aki, confirmed the closure of the building and the opening of the six alternate lanes at the inauguration of PedWest on July 15.
