The American Film Market & Conferences published an interesting study on their website, about how movies genres work around the world; action, documentary, drama, horror, and romantic comedy are some of the options. As one of the most important film markets worldwide, Mexico and 3,368 movies watched there were considered for the study.
Analysts Stephen Follows and Bruce Nash participated in the study and compared the impact of some genres in places where films are more watched at an international level. Countries such as the United States, South Korea, France, Japan and Mexico are a huge part of the film industry.
According to the study, the favorite genres of Mexicans are Horror and Romantic Comedies, so that would explain why almost every week theres a new horror movie in Mexico theaters, and many of them with really bad quality, while in the U.S. they are directly launched to VOD platforms oftentimes.
On the other hand, Mexicans dont see a lot of documentaries or show any interest in drama movies. For a clearer idea, heres a graph showing the results, where 0% means the average at an international level.
