Governor Marina del Pilar confirms extension of foreign car regularization program until 2026

She also said that the money obtained from this program will be used to restore roads throughout the state

After the decree was issued by the Andrés Manuel López Obrador administration, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, confirmed the deadline extension for foreign vehicle (also known as "chocolate" cars) regularization which will be until September 26, 2026.

With this deadline extension, the governor stated that this reaffirms their commitment to continue promoting policies that generate wellbeing for Baja Californian families, especially those who need it the most while improving communities' road infrastructure.

This program, promoted by President Andrés Manuel, will provide legal certainty to thousands of car owners, strengthen public security, and support the state's road infrastructure projects.

Since its implementation, the program has allowed for the regularization of 428,936 vehicles in Baja California as of September 26, 2024, benefiting thousands of families according to the Secretariat of Finance.

These now regularized vehicles are an important step to build a trustworthy registry that makes the identification of cars driving in the state easier.

In addition, the money obtained through this program has been allocated to municipalities for paving and road restoration projects, with an accumulated amount of 775,760,962.50 pesos which have been transferred to all city halls.

The governor invited the people of Baja California to take advantage of this deadline extension and to do the car regularization procedure at https://regularizaauto.sspc.gob.mx.
