On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos La Ola” located at Diego Rivera 1209, Zona Urbana Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a Costa Azul shrimp taco priced at $4.44 dollars ($80 pesos) and a fish chicharron taco priced at $3.33 dollars ($60 pesos).
Fish Chicharron Taco
This taco has fish chicharron, cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle dressing, and is served on a green corn tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco is the peculiar and colorful green tortilla, which also had a good size.
When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that despite it being dry, the tortilla had a good flavor. However, both the fish and the flour that covered it were lacking in flavor, as it was very subtle and barely noticeable. The dressing wasn’t very spicy and the vegetables added freshness. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.2.
Price: $3.33 dollars ($60 pesos)
Costa Azul Taco
This taco has shrimps wrapped in bacon and filled with marlin, a bed of rice, Thousand Island-like dressing, and is served on a green corn tortilla. Before trying it, Chef Danny decided to remove the tails that were still on the shrimps, as they tend to feel very awkward.
When he tried the taco, Chef Danny noticed the amazing flavor this taco had due to the bacon and smoked marlin. The rice was lacking a little bit of flavor, despite it having butter; it also had a somewhat pasty texture. The tortilla had a greater presence as the corn flavor stood out creating a good combination with the protein. An ingredient that created contrast was the dressing, as it added some sweet touches. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.
Price: $4.44 dollars ($80 pesos)
