CBP issues recommendations to quickly and smoothly cross the border into the US

These recommendations will save you time in line

US Customs and Border Protection posted on their official website some recommendations for travelers that wish to cross between Tijuana and the US during the September 16 weekend, Independence Day in Mexico.

This is in order to streamline the trip through the US border. Anne Maricich, CBP Acting Director of Field Operations in San Diego, stated: “We just ask the traveling public to ensure that they plan ahead and keep up to date on wait times.”

In addition, CBP recommended that those with tourist visas apply and pay for an online I-94 permit through the mobile CBP One app to make international trips to the US easier.

Among the most important recommendations to achieve a smoother trip, they stated the following:
- Avoid peak hours for their travel times: Monday to Friday 4 AM to 9 AM & Saturday to Sunday 2 PM to 12 AM.
- Line up in the proper lanes (SENTRI, Ready Lane, and All Traffic).
- Have all the required travel documents for the country you are visiting, as well as identification for re-entry into the United States.
- Declare everything you bring from abroad, even if you bought it in a duty-free shop.

Be aware of U.S. prohibited merchandise, such as ivory, tortoiseshell products and counterfeit items. Bringing prohibited merchandise is against the law and can result in penalties up to $10,000.
