From the National Palace, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, commented that in addition to the main issue of migration, he will possibly put the reopening of the northern border on the table in his virtual meeting with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
This is a situation of interest for both countries, and it is necessary to solve it as soon as possible to normalize the border flow, which is already being considered by the authorities of the neighboring country.
"They have already made considerable progress in vaccination, they have managed to reduce the number of infections and deaths, and so have we. And they have also advanced in vaccination at the border, so it is likely that an agreement will be reached," said López Obrador.
According to what was presented in his morning conference, the United States is positioned as the country that has administered the second most vaccines against COVID-19 worldwide, while Mexico is in 12th place.
The president added that economically, U.S. businesses have been more affected than Mexicans, with the restrictions on essential crossings only at the border, which were applied since March 21, 2020, and remain in force until May 21, 2021.
