Top Tijuana City Official Under Fire For Racist Facebook Comment

She belongs in Europe, not here with the "natives"

Liliana Sevilla Rosas, Director of The Women's Institute in Tijuana, recently posted a meme with the following message: "What if my place is somewhere in Europe and here I am suffering among natives".

The post immediately created displays of rejection up to the point where a user commented: A bit contemptuous, don't you think? That's discrimination! And offensive!!

Before the public official deleted the post, another comment was posted: "It's a real shame that the person in charge of representing women in Tijuana, Lilina Sevilla, Director of IMMUJER, has such a retrograde, racist and xenophobic way of thinking".

Liliana Sevilla is no stranger to controversy due to her Facebook comments. In previous months, she used this social site to alert the public about the presence of police checkpoints against illegal or unregistered cars on the streets. She's a city official, she's not supposed to be telling people how to evade the law.

She will probably come up with some kind of excuse to defend herself, saying that she was just goofing around or that her account was hacked and she didn't posted the message, a very common excuse among public figures.

But Sevilla's name has been thrown about as a possible candidate for the Green Party's (Partido Verde) sixth district Representative seat. If she is looking forward to settle in any other political position, she better think about her campaign strategies, especially if she plans to continue her affiliation to said party, which is characterized for being featured in corruption scandals, having their most recent case happen last week, where Deputy Felipe Arturo Camarena agreed to sell his federal seat.

It is very unfair that people with this type of mentality have this type of job positions, and Sevilla is part of an institution that should be working to fight these type of situations, not create them. We will have to wait and see if there are any retaliations against her or if at least, she offers a public apology (she hasn't, at this point).

As a plus,

[p]here's some more tidbits about her life that should feed any social rage against her:

The [p]Zeta weekly has this story from last year, were it tells how in 2010 Liliana Sevilla shared an address with "El Chan", a member of the Arellano Félix cartel. She wasn't accused of any crimes or of being related to drug trafficking, but this is just an example of how little we know of our public officials.
