MEXICO.- Mexico City's international airport representatives have announced that they are prepared for any contingency that may arise should anyone be diagnosed with Ebola as a result of the outbreak that started in western Africa.
The airport has announced that it is spreading the message and bringing social awareness to passengers of the outbreak, and has installed various informational announcements about the virus and ways to prevent it throughout the airport terminal. Passengers are specifically asked to be aware of potential signs of the virus in fellow passengers.
Additionally, the airport announced that it is "following guidelines put in place by the World Health Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization in relation to the outbreaks that have occurred and are affecting Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria."
The general director for the airport, Alfonso Sarabia de la Garza, has indicated that the terminal is prepared to act in accordance with established protocols in case a suspected case of ebola were to be detected in passengers.
He also indicated that if a passenger originating in any of the countries affected by the outbreak were to come down with symptoms of ebola, they should advise airplane crew prior to arriving in Mexico City, so that they may notify medical services immediately.
"We are prepared to detect early signs of ebola cases in order to implement preventative measures accordingly, although the country's Minister of Health has indicated that no cases of ebola have been detected in Mexico."
To this end, the manager of Medical Services for the airport, Dr. Alejandro Flores Palma, indicated that, although the probability of this virus arriving in Mexico are low, health authorities in the airport are on permanent alert for signs of the virus.
