MEXICO.- After severing ties with Televisa and confirming the July fight against Erislandy Lara in Las Vegas, Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez might close out the year by facing Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao who has just defeated Tim Bradley.
Oscar de la Hoya will be seeking out Bob Arum to begin negotiations, as long as the Mexican boxer defeats the Cuban, Lara, that is. 'Canelo' and his team realize that he has a great opportunity in front of him and will be recognized once people hear what the kingpin of Golden Boy Promotions has to say.
After hearing this news, the break from Televisa starts to make more sense. It opens up for him a deeper pool to pull opponents from, without promotional limitations. Top Rank becomes a viable option for organizing a match that doesn't have issues with broadcast rights, in Mexico. The winner of the fight between 'Maravilla' Martínez vs Miguel Cotto, could be considered as the next contender to come up against 'Canelo'.
This July 12 the match between "Canelo' and Lara is on the bill at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Here the boxer's fate will be determined; after all Erislandy is a worthy contender who, just like 'Canelo', has already defeated 'Perro' Ángulo, who is also from Mexico.
