Taste the sweet tradition of "El Mejor Pan de Tecate"

Tecate is famous for its Mexican 'sweet bread', perfect for the coming season

BAJA CALIFORNIA- In 1969, when the city of Tecate had only a small population of around 20,000, a small bakery got started in town that would later grow into one of the most distinctive attractions the Tecate municipality has; we're talking, of course, of the "El Mejor Pan de Tecate" Mexican sweet bread bakery.

What began as a simple family-owned business, operated during many years as a small bakery known for its exceptional traditional Mexican sweet bread, or "pan dulce" as it's called in Spanish. As it happens with all delicious things, it gained in local popularity and moved to a bigger location in April 15, 1985, #331, Juárez Ave., Zona Centro in Tecate, Baja California .

Artisan Mexican sweet bread and other pastries are baked every morning at the hands of expert bakers, creating an exquisite array of aromas, colors, forms, and above all else flavors in each piece of bread. They have a large variety of around 180 different breads and pastries, from the traditional 'conchitas', doughnuts, 'bolillo', muffins, empanadas, 'cochitos', 'manitas', 'elotitos', and even elaborate 'Tres Leches' cake (a sponge cake with condensed, evaporated milk and heavy cream), mango and strawberry mousse, hot chocolate and catering for all kinds of events.

Breads, cakes and pastries are all of the highest levels of finesse and creativity as well, takes to the Wilton Method of Cake Decorating certified personnel, constant training carried out by some of their suppliers like Puratos, El Rosal and Distribuidora Santa Cruz. Likewise, they also have an ample selection of healthy alternatives like whole grain, multigrain, black rye, and more.

"El Mejor Pan De Tecate" handles seasonal favorites just as well, providing goods for traditional festivities in Mexico like the "Rosca de Reyes" during January , or the delicious "Pan de Muerto", or Bread for the Dead, during October and November celebrating the Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead. For each one the baking process is authentic, using ovens built with artisan-style brick domes that help keep the traditional "panadería" bakery feel, serving a higher quality bread that is reflected in the freshness and consistency of its dough.

In 2007, National Geographic made the first tourist map of Baja California, placing "El Mejor Pan De Tecate" as one of the four best tourist destinations while visiting Tecate.
