Pablo Picasso, 40 years later

Today is 40 years since the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso passed away. Picasso is known as the father of Cubism, and considered as one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century that has been a major influence for thousands of artists to this day.

More than two thousand finished paintings are what Picasso achieved in his life time, which many are now displayed in museums or are part of someone’s private collections.




One of Picasso’s most famous paintings is "The Barefoot Girl" and is the main art piece in the Picasso Museum in Paris. Researchers have discovered that the girl in the painting is actually not sitting on a chair as previously thought, but instead it is believed to be a wooden bench.

Picasso died on April 8, 1973 due to pulmonary edema in Notre-Dame-de-Vie (Mougins, France) at the age of 91. He is buried in the park of the Vauvenargues castle (Bouches-du-Rhone).
