SAN DIEGO.- Violent and property crimes dropped in 2011 according to data revealed last Wednesday by the FBI. Even so, Carlsbad and Chula Vista have seen a light increase in offenses.
For San Diego, violent crimes (robbery as well as sexual, aggravated and simple assault) are showing an incline of 9% compared to 2010. Murders are on the rise with an increase from 29 to 38 in a year, according to preliminary data.
Property crimes, like burglary and theft, have a 3% slope.
In Oceanside violent crimes went down a 4.62% even though there were 4 homicides, 11 sexual assaults and 4 robberies more than in 2010; property crime on the other hand decreased by 1.63%.
Chula Vista was one of the cities with a slight rise in the number of offenses from a total of 663 to 670 last year; there was also an increase of 1% in felonies, mainly assaults.
In contrast, the sexual abuses, robbery and property crimes are declining; 225 less vehicles stolen than in 2010.
At the same time, Carlsbad saw an increase of 7.69% in aggravated felonies and 8.24% in damage against property last year; offenses went from 195 in 2010 to 210 in 2011.
The Bureau reported a decrease of 4% in violent crimes and 0.8% in property crimes nationwide.
