Candidate of the "Sigamos Haciendo Historia en Baja California" coalition, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, stated that sports will be an essential issue in his government: "We are going to aid them from the administration so that in the future we have more legends like Vinicio Castilla".
During a cultural and sports event with Tijuana native children and youth, led by former Major Leagues baseball player Vinicio Castilla at the Luis "Viejito" García field, Burgueño Ruiz said that he will work so that Tijuana continues to be a seedbed for sports talent.
"Today, we are guaranteeing to children and young people that from the government we will support them so they can achieve their dreams in sports and culture," the MORENA candidate underscored.
Burgueño Ruiz told the young people that with discipline they can achieve their goal which is why once he becomes mayor, they will recover the courts and public spaces so that citizens can play and practice different sports.
"We want a lot of champions in the world that put Tijuana's name in high places," he reiterated.
The MORENA candidate thanked the presence of the Mexican baseball player in the city and recognized his great career as he is, so far, the Mexican batter with the highest number of home runs in the Major Leagues with 320.
Vinicio Castilla called on children and young people who love sports to follow their dreams, to work with discipline, and to dedicate themselves to achieving their dreams, not only in sports, but in life.
Vinny Castilla remembered that it was in Tijuana where he made the jump to the Major Leagues, where he played 16 seasons with the Colorado Rockies, the San Diego Padres, the Houston Astros, the Atlanta Braves, among others.
He won the Silver Slugger award three times (1995, 1997, and 1998) as the best offensive third base in the National League.
He was captain of the National Mexican Baseball Team in 2006 and in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
