San Diego and Tijuana will celebrate the musical wealth of our region with an international event that will include acclaimed musicians and performers.
This is the San Diego / Tijuana International Jazz Festival, which will take place on both sides of the border from October 4 to October 6, 2024.
On October 4, the California Center for the Arts in Escondido will welcome the artists. In Tijuana, this celebration will take place on October 5 during the Tijuana Jazz & Blues Festival in Avenida Revolución. Lastly, the Quartyard in San Diego will be the venue of the last performance on October 6.
Among the guests, there will be drummer Cindy Blackman Santana, wife of famous guitar player Carlos Santana; Gilbert Castellanos Sextex; renowned LA pianist, Gerald Clayton, and Nortec Collective, the famous local electronic band that will pay tribute to Jelly Roll Morton.
San Diego and Tijuana natives Young Lions Jazz Conservatory and the Contemporary Institute of Musicians of Baja California will join forces for a unique artistic combination.
Other guest artists are Iván Trujillo Ensemble, virtuoso trumpeter of Jazz de Ensenada and the first Mexican to win the Jazz Journalist Association’s Jazz Hero; singer Magos Herrera, the Hausman Quartet, and many more.
This celebration, described as an "impact project", is part of the events of the San Diego Tijuana World Design Capital 2024 and it is being sponsored by Irwin Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm, who has allocated for it a budget of 400,000 dollars.
