The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, highlighted the "Fundación Bebé Cardio A.C." program which has provided a life opportunity to more than 31 low-income families who have children with heart problems.
The director of Bebé Cardio A.C., Cristal Jiménez Toscano, thanked the Municipal Administration of Tijuana led by mayor Montserrat Caballero for believing in their project and for their constant support, as since 2022, this program has repaired the hearts of 31 children together with the municipal administration.
Jiménez Toscano added that this association's mission is to diagnose and repair hearts and save lives, something it has done since 2020 when the first procedure was performed.
She explained that this coordinated program began in 2020 through the Department of Citizen Assistance, in another administration: however, she recognized that it was the government of mayor Montserrat Caballero when the support became greater. "They have supported us actively, with a simple heart, to represent these families and give them hope of life."
Berenice Alejandra is 13 years old and she is one of the patients benefitted by Fundación Bebé Cardio A.C., through their assistance program for children who are 0 to 18 years old, some of which are born with some sort of heart defect.
The child was diagnosed with a heart disease, a health issue that she had since she was born and caused her to have blurry vision. "After the surgery, I feel good, I can exercise, I can walk without getting agitated. I used to get very agitated, I can see," Berenice said.
Bebé Cardio A.C. is one of the foundations that shows that when the government and civil society work together they can benefit citizens.
That's why, in order to receive more information about the several assistance programs that the Municipal Administration of Tijuana coordinates with several different organizations, people are being encouraged to go to Citizen Assistance offices.
Bebé Cardio organizes heart disease detection campaigns once or twice a year, which is why if parents suspect that their child has a heart disease, they are being asked to request information about this foundation.
