Find out how to see the Devil Comet in Tijuana
Though many said that one could see this comet during the solar eclipse, this is not the only chance you had to watch it. In fact, in a few days, you will have an even better chances to witness it.
According to official information, the comet 12P/Pons-Brooks or the Devil Comet will be seen in early May. However, from April 14 to April 30, it is expected to be at its closest distance to the Earth, which will make it shinier and more visible. April 21 is the perfect day to see this comet, and it will be able to be seen with the naked eye in all of Mexico.
NASA shared that those who want to see it will be able to find it in the following way:
Right after the Sun dips below the horizon, look West just beneath the Moon, and just right of Jupiter. An hour after sunset, the comet drops so low, it will be difficult to see without a perfectly clear view of the horizon. The comet then sets an hour later.
In addition, applications such as SkyView® Lite, Google Sky Map, Stellarium, Night Sky, and Star Walk 2 will help you to identify it much easier.
This comet got its nickname in 2024, after an explosion made it look asymmetrical, as if it had horns. It should be noted that it comes close to the Earth every 71 years which is why, just like the solar eclipse, witnessing it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
It is recommended that, to watch the comet clearly, you should go to mountains or areas with no light pollution and bring binoculars and a small telescope.
