According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics (INEGI), the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, stated that in 2023, Baja California positioned itself as the 4th highest exporter nationwide with a value of 54 billion dollars, which represented 10.2% of total Mexican exports.
The governor highlighted the vital importance of exports in the economic landscape of Baja California, which is why this information reflects that the state continues to be one of the main boosters of the national economy.
These results include several different economic activities from the primary sector and the manufacturing industry, including the extraction of oil and gas and the mining of metallic and non-metallic minerals, excluding oil and gas.
Standing out in the exports area, the industry of computation, communication, measurement, and other types of equipment manufacturing, and electronic components and accessories led the state economy with exports valued at 16.593 billion dollars, representing 30.6% of participation in 2023. They are followed by transportation equipment, with 12.205 billion dollars and 22.5% of participation, and electric manufacturing and electric energy generators, with exports of 3.41 billion dollars and 6.3% of participation in 2023.
The three industrial subindustries: computation and communication equipment, the car industry, and machinery manufacturing, together all represented 59.4% of the total value of exports in Baja California during this period.
To conclude, the Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Ignacio Honold Morales, explained that the states in the northern border were responsible for almost half of national exports, reaching a total of 258,646 billion dollars, which represent 48.5% of the total.
