According to weather systems consulted by Civil Protection Tijuana, heavy rain will occur in the next few days causing a significant impact during the weekend.

Starting on Saturday, March 30, favorable conditions will take place that will cause an atmospheric river to hit the region with high storm chances that will bring winds and intense rain with up to 2 inches of water to Tijuana.

That’s why, this morning, the Municipal Administration of Tijuana, through the Municipal Council of Civil Protection, declared a pre-alert state.

This means that a strategy will be implemented to ensure that agents concentrated in the pier that are part of the Holy Week operation can be deployed to other areas of the city, if it is necessary.

As mitigation measures, preventive rounds have taken place in flooding areas and desanders, while main landslide areas are being monitored so that they can be checked, Municipal Coordination Director, Miguel Ángel Ceballos, stated.

Recommendations due to rain

Civil Protection Tijuana issued recommendations regarding this forecast to prevent accidents and emergency situations due to the storm.

• Do not leave home if it is not necessary.

• Drive with caution.

• Protect children, seniors, and people sensitive to weather changes.

• Avoid crossing streams by car or walking.

• Keep an eye on cables and electrical wiring that could fall due to strong winds.

• Don't go into the sea while the high tide alert remains

• Report any incident to the 9-1-1 emergency number or to the "Botón de Emergencia" or "Botón Morado" mobile apps.

It should be noted that temporary shelters will be open starting on Friday, March 29. If you experience any emergency due to the rain, call the 9-1-1 number to ask for aid.
