If you were planning on going to the beach with your family for Holy Week vacations, you should consider other options as due to prevention and public health issues, the Municipal Administration of Tijuana placed precautionary closure signs in the city's different beaches.
According to a statement by the State Commission of Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS), 6 of the 7 beaches in Tijuana are not suitable for the public due to the high presence of enterococci, derived from the wastewater crisis that affects and pollutes the region's sea.
The beaches that will be permanently closed and with informative signs will be: Tijuana I (San Antonio del Mar), Baja Malibú, Playa Blanca, Tijuana II (Parque México), Tijuana III (La Mojonera/El Faro), and Cañada Azteca, which is why visitors are being asked to take precautions.
According to a study made by this federal agency, the El Vigía beach is the only one suitable for visitors which means that of 7 samples that were made in the several different spots along the coast, only 1 of them was adequate for recreational use and the other 6 had high levels of pollution.
That's why, access to the beaches of Tijuana is currently cordoned off and restricted during the holidays of Holy Week and until further notice.
The Municipal Administration of Tijuana urges people to follow these proper instructions in order to avoid any possible health risks.
