Sports have had a great impact in Baja California as teams from several different municipalities have represented the state nationwide and internationally. It is, in fact, this very state pride that will be the venue of an important baseball tournament.
Mexicali will be the venue of important baseball tournament: The 2025 Caribbean Series
After the end of this tournament's 2024 season, it was revealed that El Nido de Las Águilas, in Mexicali, will be the venue of the 67th edition of the Caribbean Series, with this municipality and Baja California acting as hosts for all competing teams. With mariachi playing the song "Soy Cachanilla", the baton was officially given to the executives of Las Águilas de Mexicali.
As its name implies, the Caribbean Series is an annual tournament where professional Caribbean baseball teams compete. In the 2024 edition, the matches of this season ended on Friday, February 9, with Venezuela being the official winner against the Dominican Republic in a game that took place in Miami.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stated:
Mexicali is ready to be, for a second time, the home of the Caribbean Series. Welcome everyone who are united by a green diamond that among throws and sport feats transforms into a field of dreams.
It should be noted that in 2009, Mexicali had the honor of being the venue of this tournament for the first time, which is why this region is more than happy to welcome once again the teams that will compete to win next year.
According to sports websites, the teams that for sure make an appearance at the Caribbean Series every year are the ones from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico. The last 2 spaces will be decided in a competition between Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba, Colombia, and Curaçao in June.
