Essilor Luxottica, state-of-the-art manufacturing company, carried out a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new facilities in the city of Tijuana, where they have decided to expand their operations and apply advanced techniques to manufacture lenses.
During this event, Giorgio Striano and Norbert Gory, Chief Operating Officers at EssilorLuxottica, revealed that besides this inauguration in Tijuana, the company also inaugurated an expansion in Chihuahua.
"For us, both cities are strategic to take a substantial leap forward regarding this company's mission which is to help people from all over the world to see more and more," the executives said.
The facilities in Tijuana, located at El Florido, have an area of approximately 50,000 square meters. Here, advanced manufacturing and smart factory techniques have been used to make 10 million additional prescribed eyeglasses per year.
This expansion investment has reached 172 million dollars, which is why 2,000 qualified employees will be hired and 10 million additional lenses will be built per year once this factory operates at 100% capacity.
This, they said, includes a state-of-the-art distribution center that shows the most advanced automatization technology, with the capability of storing and sending 25 million eyeglasses per year at full capacity.
In addition, they said, it is expected that the 25,000 square meter facilities in Chihuahua will deliver 35 million additional lenses per year.
"These new facilities represent a significant achievement in our commitment to improve services for our valuable customers from all over the world, as the global industrial footprint of EssilorLuxottica has as a goal to create an environment that guarantees operation excellence," Giorgio Striano and Norbert Gorny pointed out.
In addition, they added, they are prioritizing their collaborators, optimizing the management of energy, water, and waste, and they are maintaining exceptional product quality, as the goal of this expansion in Mexico is based on a global mission to help people.
"We are not just innovating worldwide in vision and eye care, but also investing in the local communities where we live and work," they claim.
As such, they stated, the expansions of EssilorLuxottica in Mexico confirm the group's commitment with innovation, excellence, sustainability, and community commitment, which is line with their recent opening of a plant in Thailand.
"It is expected that these new facilities reach their full capacity by 2028, addressing the growing needs of wholesale, retail, and electronic commerce clients from all over the world," they concluded.
At this event, the following people were present: Kurt Honold Morales, Secretary of Economy and Innovation of Baja California; Juan Manuel Gastélum Rivera, Private Secretary of the Municipal President of Tijuana; Ettore Mosca, Senior Vice President of Operations Global Rx in North America; Eric Javellaud, Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain, Prescription Operations, Sourcing & Procurement; Massimo Sapone, SVP of Distribution and Logistics in North America; Alain Robert, Vice President of Operations Casting Americas; Maribel Domínguez, Vice President of Operations RX Mexico, among others.
