Tijuana native artists finish murals that will be part of World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego

17 artists improved the urban landscape with their paintings by decorating SITT stations

At last, Tijuana native artists finished the murals in 17 stations of the Comprehensive System of Transportation in Tijuana (SITT), which will be part of World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego.

In today's morning press conference led by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, the head of SITT, Alejandro Mungaray Moctezuma explained that the goal devised by the mayor has been achieved.

The official said that the projects were selected through an urban art competition named "Sitios Creativos, Murales Para mi Ciudad", which was opened between March and April; during this period, more than 60 proposals were received.

Mungaray Moctezuma explained that the goal devised by Mayor Montserrat Caballero is the recovery of SITT spaces so that they are safe and operational for all people.

He explained that these actions promote several actions to decrease vandalism in stations, which provide users with adequate facilities and improve the city's urban landscape.

He explained that the projects highlight the identity traits of Tijuana natives such as monuments, customs, gastronomy, weather, and social values. In addition, they will be part of World Design Capital Tijuana-San Diego 2024, an event that will highlight the achievements of both neighboring cities on the functional application of design.

Mungaray Moctezuma thanked the collaboration of the Secretariat of Wellbeing of Tijuana, the Municipal Institute of Arts and Culture (IMAC), the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Mobility (SEMOV), and the Secretariat of Economic Development of Tijuana (SEDETI).

Artists Nayheli Morales and Axel Mijanos, special guests of the 24th Municipal Administration, thanked the opportunity of being able to be a part of this binational project that is looking to improve the city's urban image and prevent vandalism.
