The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, unveiled the "World Without Walls" monument in Playas de Tijuana, alongside citizen and former Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard. She said, regarding this event, that this is a significant symbol for Tijuana natives as it is an original fragment from the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany and cost the lives of people who wanted to be free; their wish, however, led to the wall coming down in November 9, 1989.

After almost 34 years of the Berlin Wall coming down in Germany, and with the donation of this historical piece which is located at the level of the lighthouse in Playas de Tijuana, the mayor recalled that there is no wall that won't come down with the power of freedom and peace that exists among human beings.

"Here where the Mexican motherland begins, a sanctuary city, where one comes to be free, where one begins from scratch, where dreams also come true, a border city where all voices come together, all ideologies, all colors, a multicultural region that welcomes everyone always with open arms," the mayor said.

In front of special guests, the mayor said that the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has always thought that the awakening of the people of Mexico is like the fall of a great wall built by previous governments, a wall that left out the most vulnerable groups and restricted freedoms and rights.

She thanked Marcos Cline-Márquez, film producer who gifted this part of the wall so full of symbolism and meaning for humanity, and Rodrigo Aguilar, representative of Asociación Mexicanos Construyendo, which fights for thousands of Mexican families living in the United States whose heart and struggle will always be here in Mexico.

In front of former Secretary Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, who was the artist's special guest, Montserrat Caballero claimed that as the mayor of Tijuana, as an immigrant woman, and as a Mexican, she will raise her voice to point out government policies that sow hatred and racism against Latin American brothers and sisters.

The mayor also expressed her solidarity with citizens that live and work in the United States, Mexican countrymen who are an important part of the US economy and development who are looking for a good life and respect.

She recalled that immigrants have forged and transformed cities, nations and, even if people don't like it, all of them contribute to make that country great.

The mayor reaffirmed that people should dream but never surrender, never stop fighting, never stop insisting, because a fight is lost when it is abandoned, and the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana will never leave them alone to build a world together, a world without walls.
