During Friday’s morning press conference on June 30, the Puente de los Olivos traffic project was inaugurated, which had been closed for 14 months due to an earthquake that occurred in the city in April 2022.
The head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory of Baja California (SIDURT), Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, stated that this project had an investment of 100 million pesos, of which 60 million were provided by the state government while the rest were handled by the Municipal Administration of Tijuana.

The 200-meter bridge will benefit more than 100,000 vehicles who travel on this road daily, and around 300,000 residents.
Jaramillo stated that this project represents better traffic for the city and will speed up waiting times from 1 hour to just 20 minutes.
For her part, Governor Marina del Pilar reiterated that the delays of the opening of this bridge were due to the region’s weather and other external factors. “This is a project that took a long time, because there was rain, which created delays (…) But it is now a reality, the road is already open,” the state governor added.
Though there are still some things that need to be finished on this project, they didn’t want the opening to be delayed any longer. “We are still working on the lower part, but there’s no reason for the bridge to still be closed,” the governor added.
The project includes handrails, public lighting, sidewalks, and road reflectors in order to guarantee greater safety and decrease the risk of accidents. In addition, she pointed out that they are working with the proper authorities to improve roads in other vulnerable areas of the city.
Regarding the embankment that was opened temporarily in the area, it is now closed.
