After the uncertainty caused by the end of Title 42 and the implementation of Title 8, with more proper immigration restrictions, the three ports of entry in Tijuana to the United States: San Ysidro, El Chaparral, and Otay are functioning normally.

The head of the Municipal Agency of Immigration Assistance (DMAM), Enrique Lucero Vázquez, pointed out that this is due to the timely diffusion of the new guidelines on the CBP One app as well as the risks of crossing irregularly.

He highlighted the important role that shelter administrators have had in relaying this information to immigrants arriving in these spaces, in order to prevent the immigrant community from approaching the ports of entry once Title 42 was suspended; a public health policy implemented in the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The official said that, so far, the only incident registered was the group of immigrants that had approached the wall and stayed in between the two border walls, although the situation was neutralized by the presence of the National Guard, who detain people or groups who have profited or scammed immigrants by crossing them through illegal means.

Lastly, Lucero Vázquez pointed out that the instructions by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez is to monitor the behavior of people regarding their mobility and to keep an eye in case it is necessary.
