Tijuana native Don Miguel Ruiz receives Latino Spirit Award after being nominated by assemblymember David Álvarez

In this ceremony, athletes, journalists, and authors are recognized for their talents and contributions to the community

The California Latino Caucus has recognized 11 outstanding Latinos who are inspiring younger generations as part of the 21st Latino Spirit Awards.

These awards consist of a ceremony that recognizes the awarded for their talents and contributions to the community. This year, the list included athletes, journalists, authors, and human rights activists.

One of the most distinguished people was Don Miguel Ruiz, New York Times bestselling author for his book “The Four Agreements”, a Guadalajara native, but considered a Tijuana native as he grew up in this border city. He received a 2023 Latino Spirit Award in the “Achievement in Literature” category.

In fact, they began the award ceremony by quoting the four agreements that are established in this book: ”Be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, always do your best.”

At this event, the celebration also had the presence of assemblymember David Álvarez. It should be noted that Álvarez has the support of many citizens, activists, and politicians, who have highlighted his work as a San Diego Council member as he took actions to improve education facilities. In fact, he was the one who nominated writer Don Miguel Ruiz.

During this edition of the Latino Spirit Awards, both Álvarez and Don Miguel Ruiz shared a photograph. It is important to note that in these awards outstanding Latinos who have made important contributions in different fields and continue inspiring future generations of Latinos are highlighted.
