Tijuana natives ask for exclusive lane for motorcycle riders at border crossings

Tijuana’s traffic culture is seriously lacking when it comes to drivers who are the ones responsible for chaos and tragic accidents

On social media, a petition was made by several voices from the city of Tijuana so that municipal officials cooperate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to open an exclusive new lane for motorcycle riders at ports of entry from Mexico to the United States.

The reason for this request is simple: users have said that it is unfair that riders crossing into the United States don’t have to get in line like all other four-tire vehicles have to do for hours.

On a Facebook post, they say that there is a belief that, since they are riding a motorcycle, they are able to cut in line, without waiting for their turn. Though this can be understood due to traffic in boulevards and highways, the same cannot be said when one needs to cross into the United States, where people need to wait for customs agents to carry out their necessary inspections.

This is why a petition on Change.org has been made where they ask the Tijuana Municipal Administration and CBP to intervene in regards to this issue.

It should be noted that this petition is not something strange or impossible. At the Otay port of entry, customs officials open specific lanes for motorcycle riders if they deem it necessary. However, there is no rule that mandates that they have to open a special line for them.
