Historic agreement between San Diego and Tijuana will make crossing the border much faster

During a meeting between authorities of San Diego and Tijuana, an agreement was reached for a pilot program to speed up border crossings

Today a meeting was held between representatives of the municipality of Tijuana, the consul of Mexico in San Diego, and his counterpart in Tijuana. The goal of this meeting was to come to an agreement to speed up traffic flow during the Christmas season at the city’s several ports of entry.

During the meeting, all these authorities agreed to implement a pilot program, that will consist of installing filters near the San Ysidro international port of entry.

The project contemplates the participation of members from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM), the National Guard, and agents from the Migration Institute (INM) whose goal will be to guarantee the safety and order of border crossings on the Mexican side. This plan comes into effect on November 15, 2022 and will conclude on January 15, 2023.

These binational collaboration efforts are looking to speed up the traffic flow at the border crossings. This same pilot program will also implement a special unit where vehicles with irregular issues will be dealt with.

These border agreements between both countries represent historic progress regarding their economic and cultural relation. Every day, hundreds of thousands of people cross the border into the United States and vice versa for different reasons. In addition, an increasingly significant number of Americans are currently living in cities of Baja California who will also benefit from quicker and faster border crossings.
