Goodbye border crossing traffic! Ferry pilot study between Ensenada and San Diego begins

The ferry pilot program between Ensenada and San Diego has been authorized; it will connect the borders through the sea

The cross-border binational ferry proposal that will connect the ports of San Diego and Ensenada through the sea is feasible, according to Baja Californian authorities who claimed that this could be carried out.

According to the Director of Binational Issues of the government of Baja California, David Pérez Tejada Padilla, an executive study determined the program’s viability and authorized a pilot study that should begin in the next few months.

This project’s goal is to offer an alternative so that tourists can cross the border without driving and contribute to alleviate the long waiting lines that are created at the ports of entry located in Tijuana.

In addition, Pérez Tejada Padilla shared that the United States has shown interest in the project and has signed an agreement to continue the studies for this alternative border crossing project.

On the other hand, the project would create a new kind of attraction and improve tourism not only in Baja California, but in southern California as well. The aforementioned agency has guaranteed that the project will move forward.

It should be noted that Playas de Rosarito also wishes to be added as a stop in between San Diego and Ensenada.

Regarding technical details, the ferry is expected to cover 68 nautical miles between San Diego and Ensenada in two hours with a few spare minutes; ideally, it would carry around 400 passengers.
