Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda coordinated with the three levels of government to deal with the incidents caused by Hurricane Kay in Baja California.

The governor toured affected areas in Tijuana and Mexicali and emphasized that the State Council of Civil Protection will remain active to protect the population in coordination with the Government of Mexico through SEDENA, SEMAR, the National Guard, CONAGUA, CFE, and other federal agencies. In addition, she thanked the President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador for aiding the state during this meteorological event.

“I want to tell you that from Tijuana and Mexicali to Isla de Cedros and Villa de Jesús María which reside on the limits of our brother state of Baja California Sur, we are watching over all the damages the rains created,” Marina del Pilar said, stating that the state has registered floods, waterlogging, landslides, sinkholes, home damages, potable water supply failures, and electrical outages, especially in the communities of San Quintín and San Felipe.

The state governor highlighted that the government of Baja California has been assisting people all across the Baja Californian territory, so that public activities can continue regularly as soon as possible.

The governor numbered the incidents that occurred in state highways due to the hurricane such as the sinkhole on the Mexicali-San Felipe highway that is currently being worked on by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT). Meanwhile, landslides were registered in La Rumorosa that required cleaning actions by FIARUM.

“In the southern area of our state, damages were reported in the transpeninsular highway close to Punta Prieta, in Bahía de los Ángeles surroundings, which is why the federal government is currently working to rebuild the roads,” Governor Marina del Pilar explained.

She also said that the State Council of Civil Protection of Baja California will continue working to bring everything back to normal in order to protect all the families that live in the state’s seven municipalities.

Lastly, Marina del Pilar pointed out that authorities are committed to continue working to recover normalcy all around Baja Californian territory.
