Most residents living on the border have eaten what Americans tend to call “tacos”, but if we compare them with our carne asada or adobada tacos, they are not really up to par.

A similar idea went through the mind of Taste Atlas representatives, a website who tries and rates food from all over the world. When they tried American tacos, which consist of a fried tortilla with shredded lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, and what looks like ground beef (depending on the version). There are even some versions of these tacos where they use yellow cheese and chili.

This doesn’t mean that they are not popular. Around the US, there are several famous restaurant chains such as Taco Bell, Taco Bueno, among others. Obviously, the states with the highest numbers of these restaurants are California and Texas.

It should be noted that in a ranking of the 50 worst foods in the world created by Taste Atlas, these tacos were on the list alongside other strange dishes from other countries. For example, in the Czech Republic there is a hot dog variation on a birote-like bread that doesn’t look very appetizing.

On the other hand, according to media outlet Proceso, the US National Restaurant Association has revealed that 8% of the restaurants in the country are Mexican food restaurants, although not all of them are part of the aforementioned restaurant chains.
