Price for a kilo of tortillas has increased in Tijuana. It could soon cost up to 30 pesos!

Tortillas are one of the key ingredients in Mexican food and, unfortunately, it has been reported that prices for a kilo of tortillas has increased in the last few months in Mexico. There’s even speculation that, starting on August 1st, a kilo could cost up to $30 pesos ($1.5 dollars).

Homero López García, president of the National Tortilla Council, revealed that starting on this date, this essential food could see its price increase. Fortunately, Tijuana has not reached these prices yet.

The most expensive price San Diego Red was able to find regarding tortilla prices was $26 pesos at Tortillería Proveedora. It should be noted that a few weeks ago it was cheaper, according to clients and buyers.

Meanwhile, butcher shop La Providencia located at Colonia Cacho is selling a kilo of tortillas for $23 pesos, but confirmed that they will increase their prices soon, though it is not clear when and by how much.

In addition, famous tortillería Rosenda located at Colonia Libertad in Tijuana still has tortilla prices at $23 pesos. When asked if kilo prices would increase, the employee claimed she did not know that information.

When it comes to other parts of the country, media outlet Excelsior revealed that some tortillerias in Veracruz have started selling their kilos at $30 pesos. It should be noted that nowhere in Mexico is a kilo of tortilla sold at cheaper than $20 pesos.
