The Government of Baja California led by Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda signed an agreement with the Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) in order to implement a new certification model for fishing plants and the Good Government strategy within the federal system.

During the ceremony that took place in Ensenada, the head of COFEPRIS, Alejandro Svarch Pérez explained that the new fishing model will contribute to fulfill instructions given by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of promoting the development of fishing and meet the demands of our country’s fishermen.

He explained that the agreement has coordination mechanisms in order to promote, train, supervise, and coordinate in order to strengthen accountability and promote integrity in the public service with the goal of preventing discretionary and corruption acts.

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stated that Baja California has a great fishing workforce, an extensive coastline, and a wide variety of marine species, which is why the strategy carried out by federal and state governments benefits fishing producers that have been historically forgotten and represents an authentic boost to the state’s economy.

“The commitment of Fourth Transformation governments with this national strategy is, without a doubt, to benefit the most forgotten groups and sectors, especially all men and women from the sea that for generations have been working honestly in our coastlines.”

For this, they require the federal sanitary authority’s certifications, which guarantees safety and adequate management of fishing and aquaculture products to ensure that they have the conditions to prevent the growth and development of microorganisms that could cause sickness.

The head of COFEPRIS and Marina del Pilar agreed to implement strategies to streamline processes and promote the export of safe and high-quality sea products with the new certification models for fishing plants and boats.

They also established commitments to standardize tools and operation mechanisms to promote the proper execution of regulation, control, and sanitary processes.

At the ceremony, the following people from COFEPRIS were present: Commissioner of Sanitary Operations, Bertha Alcalde Luján, and the General Coordinator of the Sanitary Federal System, Carlos Aguilar Acosta. Meanwhile, the following people from the Baja Californian government were present: Secretary of Health and General Director of the State’s Public Health Services, José Medina Amarillas; Secretary of Fishing and Aquaculture, Alma Rosa García Juárez; the Secretary of Honesty, Rosina del Villar Casas, and Ensenada Mayor, Armando Ayala Robles,

Meanwhile, as part of his work schedule, Federal Commissioner Alejandro Svarch Pérez held a meeting with local authorities in which he reviewed the construction project and toured the work constructed of the future State Lab of Public Health in Ensenada, one of the cities with the biggest scientific prospects in our country.
