The Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Honold Morales, revealed that the state government signed a memorandum of understanding with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in order to promote a culture of technological innovation for first-rate projects, as well as to contribute to the professional development of the industry.

At the event, General Director of AWS for the Public Sector in Mexico, Guillermo Almada, and Vice Chancellor of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) Tijuana Campus, Edith Montiel Ayala, were both present at the event. Diplomas were given to teachers of educational institutions that finished the “AWS Academy Cloud Foundations” course that began last February in a virtual ceremony presided by the state governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

The following institutions successfully completed the program: UABC Tecate, San Quintin, and Mexicali Campus; Technological Institutes of Mexicali and Tijuana; the Center of Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE) of Ensenada, and the Center of Innovation and Design of CETYS University (CEID).

Honold Morales explained that this agreement promotes the training of talent of the state and brings students and professionals access to education programs that will allow them to prepare to obtain renowned skills that the industry and jobs demand regarding the cloud.

The AWS cloud provides a faster way to innovation and the agreement will contribute to prepare future generations of professionals with the digital skills that the market demands. It will also support the development of science through investigation, boost the development of entrepreneurs, and the training of public officials in digital transformation.

“It is an honor for AWS to create this synergy with the state government of Baja California and with public and private universities that are a part of this great project. We are sure that the work we do together will close the existing gap in the IT world that still exists in most sectors. The knowledge of these technologies in new business models will be the turning point to achieve it,” Guillermo Almada, General Director of AWS for the Public Sector in Mexico, stated.

The digital innovation programs of AWS, part of this memorandum, are: AWS Academy, directed at university and post-graduate students of majors such as information technology and/or computation, for those who want to develop their digital skills for the current work environment; AWS Actívate, focused on entrepreneurs that want to speed up their projects using the cloud, since the program offers them access to resources that startups need to begin working in AWS quickly: credits, training, and support.

There’s also AWS EdStart, designed for entrepreneurs in the education sector that want to bolster the new generation of educational innovation, and GovExecEd, an executive education course for public officials about digital transformation.

Besides these previous programs, AWS will bring 3,000 training quotas whose goal is to strengthen the knowledge of basic cloud concepts for Baja Californian students and teachers that are interested in knowing more about this technology. Cloud computing is having cross-sectional impact in all industries. These efforts will bring the opportunity to any student that wants to learn about cloud concepts.

The Direction of Innovation and Technology from Baja California’s Secretariat of Economy and Innovation will accompany students, professionals, and institutions to participate in these digital innovation programs to benefit Baja California.
