Marina del Pilar promotes youth development in Baja California

Under Marina del Pilar’s administration, Baja California becomes the first region of the world to sign the International Treaty of the Rights of Young People

Baja Californian Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda got Baja California into the International Treaty of the Rights of Young People, making the state into the first region of the world in joining this agreement, as a way of recognizing the value of youth in the state’s development.

This document is considered the most progressive position regarding youth matters, since it was issued by the International Organism of Youth of Ibero-America, which involves Spain, Portugal, and Latin American countries.

The treaty recognizes young people as people with rights that must be a part whenever creating public policies, which is why Marina del Pilar’s initiative was well received by the international organization.

This treaty includes environmental, inequality, education, job, sexual health, and other issues that are directly related to the development, wellbeing, and strengthening of young people.

During her participation in the National Meeting of Youth Agencies Coordination of Federal States 2022, where heads of youth state organizations were present, Marina del Pilar thanked the presence of these young Mexican leaders and encouraged them to continue the transformation of the country.

“The main priority is to listen to the voices of young people, what they express, so that we can transform it into public policy,” the governor said.

Marina del Pilar highlighted that young people are ever more present in state governments and have managed to tear down limitations imposed by the recent past.

She said that in her administration the first Young People’s Agenda of Baja California was created, and the budget of the Youth State Institute was highly increased, so that there is a greater operating margin to benefit this part of society.

Moreover, she underscored mobility mechanisms for young people in rural state areas, which are all part of the main actions included in the 2022-2027 State Development Plan.

You will continue participating to transform your states and our country. And I will be very happy to see you in the near future wherever your aspirations take you. Let’s keep looking for better policies all together to give voice and spaces to Mexican youth", she said at the end.
