Baja California is a very modern state, both in infrastructure and in technological progress. However, Mexican roots here are just as important and these are not ignored at all. A proof of this is a farmer’s market where handicraft, traditional candy, and more items can be found.

To show this, Cedric González visited Mercado Miguel Hidalgo, located in Tijuana, founded in 1955. Here one can find a great variety of Mexican items such as food, candy, spices, natural medicines, accessories, piñatas, fruits, souvenirs, and much more.

Saúl González, resident of Bakersfield, California, said that he visits the renowned “Mercado Hidalgo” because he enjoys buying cajeta, Mexican candy, mango shaved ice, and because of its unparalleled gastronomy. He added how great it is to see all kinds of cultures expressed in one single city and one single market such as this one.

The products not only have a Baja Californian origin, but they also come from other states such as Oaxaca, Queretaro, Veracruz, Morelia, among others. This place has become a tourist destination, especially for visitors from San Diego and southern California and even other countries. Those who come to the market come here to enjoy its food, colors, environment, and all of the fresh produce for sale.
