Passports are essential identification documents that allows one to travel to different parts of the world by crossing through borders without any legal or administrative issues. This is as long as you pay a certain amount of money and fulfill certain documentation requirements.
Some passports have an advantage because due to their agreements with other countries and geographical position will allow a person to be able to get into a high number of countries without needing to take out the passport for each country. The European Union and the Nordic Countries Union are a perfect example of this concept.
Website ParkSleepFly.com made a cost-benefit comparison between 48 passports around the world, taking into account the number of countries that can be visited with just one passport and the cost to apply for each passport.
This comparison concluded that a Mexican passport is one of the worst in the world, ranking in second to last place, tying with the San Marino passport, and only beaten by the Liechtenstein passport.
Why is this?
The website gives two main reasons: mobility allowed by the passport and its cost. Mexico is one of the countries whose passport gives one the least freedom to travel with a mobility score of just 137, which means one can only visit 97 countries without a visa and 40 with a visa on arrival.
When it comes to its price, it is not particularly cheap either since a Mexican passport can cost $2000 pesos which is equal to around $100 dollars for a six-year passport.
