Cofepris announces removal of Doritos and Cheetos products off the market for breach of norms

Bags were sold with cartoon pictures and incomplete nutritional information

The Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) and the Federal Consumer Agency (Profeco) revealed that after verification checkups in several supermarkets a total of 10,075 products were removed from the market.

Among these products there are Cheetos and Doritos bags, and Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper soda boxes due to breach of established norms. For example, a lot of these products had cartoon pictures and were not displaying complete nutrition facts.

Another thing that caused the products to be removed from the market was the lack of labels. Because of this, authorities explained that all products must have the following so that they can be sold in any supermarket or convenience store:

1. Labels stating an excess of calories or excess of sugar
2. Allergic labels and related labels regarding caffeine and sweeteners
3. Interactive images in products with warning labels or repeal stamps

They stated that the goal of putting labels at the top of products is to show consumers if the item has certain nutritional particularities.

It should be noted that this only happened in these products and once this error is corrected, the product will be able to be sold again.
