The Baja California journalistic union has been in mourning since the murders of photojournalist Margarito Martnez Esquivel and journalist Lourdes Maldonado in less than a week, a problem that has sparked national and international outrage because no one has yet been found guilty for both facts.
As a result of this situation, Gilberto Landeros, the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, has indicated that officials from Mexico City would arrive on Tuesday to help with the investigations.
Landeros said that this is a matter handled directly by the State Attorney General's Office, but he added that, as with other security matters, his office would make every effort to shorten the process and do justice to the journalistic union.
He used the occasion to emphasize that he aspires to live up to residents' expectations of him as a public servant, for which he works tirelessly to ensure that his labor bears fruit.
It should be noted that the journalist Lourdes Maldonado was killed outside her house in the Santa Fe community last Sunday, for which the State Attorney General's Office is investigating and a special prosecutor will be assigned to the case within the next few hours.
Another case that has yet to be completed is that of photojournalist Margarito Martnez, who was shot and killed outside his home in his car on Monday, January 17.
