With the arrival of September and summer about to end, the northern hemisphere is getting ready to start the autumn period. The autumnal equinox will enter our country on September 22, 2021, at approximately 12:21 p.m., local time in Tijuana and San Diego.
During this astronomical event, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky for an observer, since it is located in the plane of the celestial equator, causing day and night to have almost the same duration throughout the Earth. Thus in the northern hemisphere we receive the arrival of autumn, and in the southern hemisphere, spring.
Autumn 2021 will last 89 days, 20 hours and 38 minutes, according to data from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), and will end with the winter solstice on Tuesday, December 21 of this year.
For Mexico, it is expected that during this season the days will be mild, with lower temperatures during the night, as well as shorter days and longer nights.
There is also the possibility that Southern California and Northern Baja California will experience Santa Ana winds, which are very dry and hot, a weather phenomenon that appears regularly in this area during the fall.
The change of color of the leaves of the trees are another unique feature that happens at that time of year, which is due, in the words of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to the chemical process that trees perform when changing seasons, giving us landscapes with yellow, orange and reddish tones, a favorite of many people who love nature and this beautiful season in our hemisphere.
