Baja California registers 69 people hospitalized and 50 intubated because of COVID-19 this Monday, informed the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico.
During his daily report, he commented that so far there are no minors intubated, but at least five are in a hospital unit because of this disease, of which three are between 10 and 14 years old, and two between 15 and 19 years old.
With these figures, Pérez Rico denied what was circulating on social networks that many children were being intubated due to coronavirus in the state.
However, he did mention that the number of minors hospitalized due to this disease did increase. "We usually had one or two children under the age of 18 hospitalized, today we have five. The Delta variant is not only affecting the younger population in Baja California, but also in Mexico and the world".
Infections in infants in the United States have increased considerably due to this variant, which is a matter of public concern.
The head of the Secretariat of Health added that "for the population's peace of mind", in the following days the figures of the children being admitted to the hospitals will be shared.
Regarding the vaccine for people between 12 and 17 years old, Pérez Rico said that they are waiting for the authorization from the federal government to start its application to this group, which is composed of 600 thousand minors in the state.
Currently Baja California accumulates 1,034 active cases of coronavirus, located 413 in Tijuana, 349 in Mexicali, 164 in Ensenada, 45 in Rosarito, 30 in Tecate, 29 in San Quintin and four in San Felipe.
