Do rent prices seem exorbitant to you? Do your savings to buy a house not seem to be enough? This is happening everywhere in Mexico. In 2021 alone, prices increased by 10.9% per square meter, as reported by Expansión Obras.
According to the Federal Mortgage Society (SHF), housing prices in the second quarter of this year, compared to last year, have radically increased in several areas of the country, mainly in metropolitan areas.
Tijuana and Guadalajara are the cities that have increased their costs the most, followed by Monterrey, Leon, Queretaro, Toluca and the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, in the midst of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
A particular problem in Tijuana is that due to its proximity to the United States, many of the houses for rent or sale are asking for dollars instead of pesos, an issue that has monopolized debates in publications such as this one. In addition, the high prices do not go below $800 in areas with the greatest supply.
These areas are Cacho, Residencial Agua Caliente and Chapultepec where prices vary between $26,000 and $33,800 pesos. The search for places with lower prices in the city is feasible, however, the conditions would be different and you would probably not be able to find a central location.
Many people are opting to rent in remote places, despite the fact that in the most central areas of the city residential buildings have increased, however, prices scare away Mexicans, while they are accessible to foreigners coming mainly from the United States.
