The coronavirus is still not giving up for many countries around the world, being the United States the nation that has been most affected by the disease, retaining so far the highest number of deaths caused by the SARS Cov-2 virus worldwide, so many specialists in the nation still find it difficult to return to a "normal life", at least not in the near future.
Anthony Fauci, a doctor specializing in Immunology and a leading expert in infectious diseases in the United States, stated that there is a high possibility that citizens will continue to use the mask at least until 2022, even if the country has the opportunity to reduce restrictions, the mask will continue to be necessary.
The extension of this sanitary measure will depend only on the development of the pandemic in the United States, as well as on the variants and the level of infection presented by the virus in the coming months; even with this announcement, the official emphasized that there will be a much more significant "degree of normality" than what was experienced in the nation last year.
In another interview, Fauci informed that although the United States is doing everything possible to accelerate the application of anti-COVID vaccines to its entire population, the reality is that there is no specific time to determine when the long-awaited collective immunity will be achieved, since in the words of the expert "the country must reach a very, very, very, very, very, very low baseline before starting to think that they are out of danger".
Currently, the country is on the verge of surpassing the mark of 500 thousand deaths due to COVID-19, a figure that the doctor himself has described as terrible, while the number of infections has already accumulated more than 28 million cases.
"We have not seen anything like this for 100 years, since the 1918 pandemic. It is something that will go down in history. Decades from now, people will still talk about this moment when so many people died," said Dr. Anthony Fauci.
