Fake COVID-19 vaccines seized in Baja California

Around 400 doses were confiscated by elements of the National Guard.

Today the National Guard of Baja California (GN) reported the seizure of more than 400 fake vaccines against the SARS virus Cov-2, which had been sent through the courier belonging to the airline "Volaris".

The events occurred on February 13 at the Mexicali airport, when the authorities noticed that the package did not have any documentation, so it had to be consigned to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office to initiate the respective investigations.

Finally, this Monday, Baja California's Secretary of Health, Alonso Perez Rico, confirmed that the shipment did not contain anti-COVID doses, but a substance that has not yet been identified.

Perez Rico reminded the population that the vaccine distributed by the Mexican government is the only one validated for its application, since its commercialization for private organizations is not yet authorized. He also emphasized the sanitary alert announced by COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks) at the beginning of February, which warned the population about the possible counterfeiting of anti-COVID doses in Mexican territory.

The second phase of the National Vaccination Plan (PVN) began yesterday with the administration of the dose against coronavirus to adults over 60 years of age, a sector of the population most vulnerable to the disease. The registration (mivacuna.salud.gob.mx), which was to be done online prior to receiving the vaccine, reached 3.4 million users in the first three days after its launch.
