The state health secretary, Gloria Molina, has recently confirmed the presence of the new COVID-19 strain in Mexican territory, which has already been identified in countries such as the United States, France, Japan and Spain, to name a few.
The case was registered in Tamaulipas, in a 56-year-old man who had just returned from Mexico City, but had also traveled to Europe before.
The individual, without an identity released by the authorities yet , had arrived in the city last December 29th and it was due to the sanitary protocols that Tamaulipas has that he was detected with COVID-19 upon his arrival to the airport. Later, a sample was requested to make the additional studies and to make sure that it was not another type of virus or a variation never detected before, revealing the presence of the new COVID-19 strain.
Likewise, all travelers who shared a flight with the infected were informed about the tests, which have given negative results.
The "British strain" as it has been called lately, is characterized by spreading much faster than the common coronavirus and was initially detected by the United Kingdom, which is the place with the most registered cases of this variation so far.
With the recent discovery of the COVID-19 virus mutation in Tamaulipas, the state has decided to reinforce sanitary protocols and deploy the respective strategies to monitor and control the entry to Mexican borders, this with the help of the State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (CEPCRS).
